2008 SESSION
089197756WHEREAS, Samantha Urquhart, a junior at Southampton High School, is an outstanding member of the girls’ basketball team and was recognized on February 1, 2008, for scoring over 1,000 points in her career at the school; and
WHEREAS, in her freshman year, Samantha Urquhart scored 416 points over the course of the season, averaging 19.8 points per game, was the team’s rookie of the year, and was named to the All-District team; and
WHEREAS, as a sophomore, Samantha Urquhart was the Indians’ captain and leading scorer, totaling 369 points for the season and averaging 17.6 points per game; she was also the second-leading scorer in the Bay Rivers District and was honored as the team’s most valuable player and the Bay Rivers District player of the year; and
WHEREAS, Samantha Urquhart has been the Indians’ second-leading scorer in the 2008 season, averaging 15.1 points per game, and is on pace to tally over 300 points for the season; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated leader on and off the basketball court, Samantha Urquhart has started 60 games in her career and has missed only one game due to illness; and
WHEREAS, in addition to being an outstanding basketball player, Samantha Urquhart is a member of the National Honor Society, Tri-Hi-Y, Students Against Drunk Driving, and the Southampton High School volleyball team, and in the past she has participated in track, softball, and Future Educators of America; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Samantha Urquhart on scoring over 1,000 points in her high school basketball career; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Samantha Urquhart as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her accomplishments as a student athlete and best wishes for continued success.
