Commending Howard Springsteen.

WHEREAS, Howard Springsteen was named the 2007 Citizen of the Year for the Town of Vienna by the Fairfax County Times; and

WHEREAS, when asked what makes Howard Springsteen exceptional, community leaders, neighbors, and friends in Vienna all say the same thing—he is just always there to help, he is the first to volunteer, and he never hesitates to lend a hand, whether it’s assisting a neighbor with a project, organizing a community run, circulating petitions, or spending time with someone who has been ill; and

WHEREAS, Howard Springsteen’s most visible contribution to Vienna has been his involvement with the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department (VVFD); he has been a member of the department for 11 years and president since 2001; and

WHEREAS; during his time with the VVFD, Howard Springsteen has overseen the extensive renovation of the Vienna firehouse and a general turnaround for the department, which now logs more hours than any other volunteer fire department in Fairfax County; and

WHEREAS, while his job as logistics manager for the Fairfax County Department of Vehicle Services keeps him very busy, Howard Springsteen still finds time to serve on the Vienna Transportation Safety Commission; and

WHEREAS, Howard Springsteen is an active member at Vienna Presbyterian Church and with his son's Boy Scout troop, and he never tires of supporting and promoting his community, feeling that he has been repaid tenfold for his efforts; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Howard Springsteen on his selection as the 2007 Citizen of the Year for the Town of Vienna; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Howard Springsteen as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his dedication to his community and his fellow citizens.
