WHEREAS, Kathy Mantz, the admired and respected senior vice president and chief financial officer of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, retired on January 30, 2008, following 23 years of outstanding service to the chamber and her community; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Mantz was honored with the Distinguished Citizen of the Year award by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce at its sixth annual banquet and awards ceremony held at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center in November 2007; and

WHEREAS, in 1985 Kathy Mantz began her career as a part-time bookkeeper, was promoted to full-time administrative assistant, and by the late 1980s, was named executive director of the Christiansburg Chamber for her hard work and commitment to area businesses; and

WHEREAS, some of Kathy Mantz’s many contributions to the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce include leading the fight to keep the post office in downtown Christiansburg, encouraging downtown beautification projects, and facilitating the successful merger of the Christiansburg and Blacksburg regional Chambers of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Mantz is well-known for her tremendous work ethic and her ability to create valuable personal and professional relationships; she has served as an exemplary administrator and an excellent advisor and mentor to her many friends, associates, and colleagues; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to the prosperity of Montgomery County and the well-being of its residents, Kathy Mantz has been a tireless supporter of numerous businesses and civic organizations that have joined the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and her as vital partners with the communities of Blacksburg and Christiansburg; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Mantz plans to continue as the New River Valley Chamber Coalition’s Leadership New River Valley Coordinator and will enjoy quality time and new adventures with her family and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Kathy Mantz on her 23 years of visionary leadership and her commitment to the citizens of Montgomery County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kathy Mantz as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her many achievements and best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement.
