HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 483
Celebrating the life of Chief Warrant Officer Dwayne L. Moore.

WHEREAS, United States Army Chief Warrant Officer Dwayne L. Moore, a native of Williamsburg, died in the line of duty on April 19, 2007, while serving his country in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, the youngest of seven children with three older brothers who served in the Marines, Chief Warrant Officer Moore, a 1994 graduate of Lafayette High School, wanted to follow his brothers’ example and serve his country, but chose a different branch of the armed forces; and

WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Moore enlisted in August 1994 and trained at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to be a field artilleryman; while in the Army, he decided to pursue a college degree, and in 2003 he graduated from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma; and

WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Moore loved the Army, rising in the ranks from an enlisted soldier to a chief warrant officer; after completing warrant officer candidate school at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, he was assigned in 2005 to the 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum, New York, and in August 2006 he was deployed to Iraq with his unit; and

WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Moore’s military training includes the Target Acquisition Radar Technician Warrant Officer Basic Course, Warrant Officer Candidate School, Total Army Instructor Training Course, Jumpmaster Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, and Basic Airborne Course; his awards and decorations are the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated husband, father, son, and brother, Chief Warrant Officer Moore will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife and young daughter, his parents, his brothers and sisters, and many other family members and good friends; and

WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Moore’s death is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the thousands of Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm's way; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic Virginian, Chief Warrant Officer Dwayne L. Moore; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Chief Warrant Officer Dwayne L. Moore as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of the Commonwealth.
