Commending James E. Copp.

WHEREAS, James E. Copp has been an enthusiastic and effective advocate for the tourism industry in Virginia for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, James Copp came to Virginia in 1973 from his native Ohio to work at Paramount’s Kings Dominion, where he retired in 2003 as vice president for finance and administration; and

WHEREAS, during his more than three decades in the Commonwealth, James Copp has been a driving force for the promotion of tourism in the state and an important business leader in Hanover County in particular; and

WHEREAS, James Copp has been very active in the Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association over the years, serving as chairman, secretary, and treasurer of the organization at different times and as a member of the government affairs and finance committees; and

WHEREAS, well-known in the halls of the Capitol in Richmond, James Copp has worked tirelessly with state legislators to develop strategies and promote policies that would entice even more visitors to explore the state’s wealth of attractions; and

WHEREAS, James Copp served as the chief financial officer for Richmond Region 2007, a nonprofit corporation that was created to coordinate local efforts to capitalize on the boost in tourism related to the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown settlement; and

WHEREAS, in Hanover County, James Copp has shown tremendous leadership in the business community through his membership on the Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center Community Advisory Board, Hanover Association of Businesses and Chamber of Commerce, Hanover Business Council of the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, Hanover Adult Center, and the Hanover School Board Business Advisory Committee; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend James E. Copp for his skilled and spirited advocacy on behalf of the tourism industry; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to James E. Copp as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for his dedication to the growth and development of tourism in the Commonwealth.
