WHEREAS, the Honorable George Mason III of Westmoreland County, esteemed citizen of the Commonwealth, will retire on March 31, 2008, after having served with distinction as a circuit court judge for the Fifteenth Judicial District of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, George Mason graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, earned a law degree from The College of William and Mary’s Marshall-Wythe School of Law, and was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 1975; and

WHEREAS, George Mason is a direct descendant of the Virginia patriot, George Mason (1725 - 1792), and he is extremely proud to carry on a family tradition of practicing law as did his father and grandfather before him; and

WHEREAS, a man of integrity, honesty, and considerable legal knowledge, George Mason engaged in the private practice of law in his hometown of Colonial Beach for many years and has been an active member of his community, giving his time and expertise as a board member for many professional, civic, and government organizations; and

WHEREAS, Judge Mason was appointed to the circuit court bench for the Fifteenth Judicial District of Virginia in 2005, after serving two years as a General District judge hearing cases in the Northern Neck and Essex County; and

WHEREAS, Judge Mason is an admired and exceptional jurist, who has presided over cases in Spotsylvania, Hanover, and Westmoreland Counties with great fairness, skill, and compassion; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Honorable George Mason III for his dedication to Virginia's judicial system, his profession, and the people of the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable George Mason III as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation of his many achievements and gratitude for his outstanding public service.
