Commending the Potomac Senior High School football team.

WHEREAS, the Potomac Senior High School football team had an outstanding 2007 season and made it to the Virginia High School League Group AAA state championship game with a perfect 13 - 0 record; and

WHEREAS, while the Potomac Panthers lost to Stone Bridge High School in the championship game, their appearance in the state final was a tremendous achievement as the team had lost eight key defensive players from its 2006 squad; and

WHEREAS, to reach the state finals, Potomac Senior High School claimed the Cardinal District title, won the Northwest Region in a 27 - 14 victory over George Washington High School, and trounced Hanover High School 49 - 19 in the state semifinals; and

WHEREAS, led by a core group of seniors including running backs Mulku Kalokoh and Darius Brent, receivers Abdul Kanneh and Donald Vaughn, and offensive/defensive lineman George Bansah, the Panthers took it one game at a time all season, never resting on their laurels as the wins piled up; and

WHEREAS, in just his third year at Potomac, Head Coach Tony Lilly has led the team to the state semifinals and the finals and looks forward to many more winning seasons; and

WHEREAS, the superb performance of the 2007 Panthers is a tribute to the talent, commitment, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Tony Lilly and his staff; and the support of the parents, students, and faculty of Potomac Senior High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Potomac Senior High School football team on reaching the 2007 state championship game; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Tony Lilly as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the great success of the Potomac Panthers football team.
