WHEREAS, the Frank W. Cox High School field hockey team capped an outstanding 2007 season by winning the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Group AAA state championship; and
WHEREAS, in their final game on November 10, 2007, the Lady Falcons demonstrated why Frank W. Cox High School’s athletic program is one of the most successful in the state, topping their own record in becoming the most successful team in VHSL history by winning an amazing 15 state titles; and
WHEREAS, ranked third in the nation, the talented Lady Falcons finished the 2007 season with a perfect record of 23 wins and 0 losses; and
WHEREAS, in 2006 and 2007, the Lady Falcons won two consecutive state titles while only losing two games in two seasons; and
WHEREAS, in 2007 the Lady Falcons outscored opponents 37 - 2 in the postseason and 109 - 10 over the entire season, and set a record for the most goals scored during a state final match; and
WHEREAS, the Falcons were very proud of senior Kaitlyn Hiltz, who was recognized as the nation’s top scorer and was named Verizon Athlete of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the Falcons’ outstanding mentor and coach, Julie Swain, was honored with the VHSL Group AAA Coach of the Year award; and
WHEREAS, all of the hard working and gifted players of the Frank W. Cox High School field hockey team made valuable contributions in a tremendous team effort in the championship games and throughout the season; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2007 Lady Falcons is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Coach Julie Swain and her staff; and the support of the students, parents, and faculty of Frank W. Cox High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Lady Falcons from Frank W. Cox High School on their VHSL Group AAA field hockey state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Julie Swain as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the outstanding season and continued excellence of the Frank W. Cox High School field hockey team.
