HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 430 Offered February 19, 2008 Commending the Frank W. Cox High School athletic program.  ----------

WHEREAS, Frank W. Cox High School in Virginia Beach is recognized as the recipient of the coveted Virginia High School League (VHSL) Group AAA Wachovia Cup for outstanding athletic achievement for the 2006 - 2007 school year; and

WHEREAS, since 1990, the VHSL Wachovia Cup goes to the school in each group classification that has achieved the best overall record in state-level competition in 27 sports; and

WHEREAS, Frank W. Cox High School has been awarded the VHSL Wachovia Cup more than any other school in the state, winning a total of nine awards; and

WHEREAS, having an enviable 31 state athletic titles over all, Frank W. Cox High School was the first AAA Wachovia Cup winner in 1990 and earned subsequent awards in 1993, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2004 and 2006; and

WHEREAS, in the 2006 - 2007 school year, the Falcons won state championships in field hockey, boys’ volleyball, and golf; finished second in girls’ soccer; and added Wachovia Cup points in boys’ soccer, girls’ tennis, girls’ volleyball, wrestling, and sportsmanship; and

WHEREAS, Frank W. Cox High School has won the Wachovia Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award nine times since its inception in the 1993 - 1994 school year; and

WHEREAS, the outstanding athletic program at Frank W. Cox High School is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the teams and individual players; the leadership of the coaches and their staffs; and the support of the parents, students, and faculty of the school, as well as the community of Virginia Beach; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Frank W. Cox High School Falcons on their dedication to high school sports and as the Group AAA recipient of the VHSL Wachovia Cup for outstanding athletic achievement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Frank W. Cox High School as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the Falcons’ exemplary athletic programs.
