HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 429 Offered February 19, 2008 Commending the Frank W. Cox High School boys' volleyball team. ----------

WHEREAS, the 2007 Frank W. Cox High School boys’ volleyball team capped a commendable season as the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Group AAA Eastern Region champions, winning a No. 2 seed in the state championship tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Frank W. Cox High School Falcons defeated the Monacan High School Chiefs, the Central Region runner-up, 3 - 2, in an exciting semifinal match at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center on November 15, 2007, setting up the final game for the state title with the Thomas Dale High School Knights; and

WHEREAS, after suffering the loss of many strong senior players who rallied the school to a 2006 state title, the young Falcons team was up to the challenge in 2007, making an all-out effort to do well in postseason play; and

WHEREAS, on November 17, 2007, the tough 2006 defending state champion Falcons won runner-up honors in the state championship game against the formidable Knights; and

WHEREAS, all of the hardworking and gifted players of the Frank W. Cox High School boys’ volleyball team made valuable contributions in a tremendous team effort in the championship games and throughout the season; and

WHEREAS, the exemplary performance of the 2007 Falcons is a tribute to the dedication and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Jason Zuidema and his staff; and the support of the students, parents, and faculty of Frank W. Cox High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Falcons boys’ volleyball team from Frank W. Cox High School on their fine 2007 season and their VHSL Group AAA Eastern Region championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Jason Zuidema as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the outstanding performance of the Frank W. Cox High School boys’ volleyball team.
