Commending Patricia Herr.

WHEREAS, Patricia Herr, a teacher at Smart’s Mill Middle School of the Loudoun County Public Schools was honored as a recipient of the 2008 Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Herr was nominated by colleagues, parents, students, and former students and chosen from among 12 nominees to receive the coveted award, which is sponsored by The Washington Post; and

WHEREAS, a conscientious and hardworking educator, Patricia Herr takes the most at-risk students of Smart’s Mill Middle School under her wing and helps them succeed; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Herr interacts with her students in and out of the classroom and celebrates their lives by staying in regular contact with them through cards, letters, phone calls, home visits, and extracurricular school activities; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Herr works hard to boost her students’ confidence in their ability to excel and achieve their academic goals, and she helps them improve their study, comprehension, and testing skills; and

WHEREAS, a talented, fair, and supportive educator and an excellent role model for her fellow teachers and the young people of the Commonwealth, Patricia Herr epitomizes the vital role quality teachers play in the education of Virginia’s children; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Patricia Herr on her well-deserved recognition as a 2008 Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Patricia Herr as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for her commitment to the young people of Loudoun County and the Commonwealth.
