WHEREAS, the Honorable Robert Brooks Edwards, esteemed citizen of the Commonwealth, retired on December 31, 2007, after having served for 39 years as chief judge of the General District Court for the Fifth Judicial District of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Judge Edwards has distinguished himself as a capable and dedicated public servant to the citizens of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, throughout his time on the bench, Judge Edwards has served the citizens of the Commonwealth with his unique blend of intellect, common sense, and commitment to equal justice for all; and

WHEREAS, throughout his life, Judge Edwards has given generously of his time and immense talents to countless professional and civic organizations on the state and local level and has been recognized for his many contributions as an exemplary jurist and outstanding public servant; and

WHEREAS, Judge Edwards’ greatest delight remains the well-being of his family and his fellow citizens, and he plans to spend quality time with his loved ones and remain involved in the activities of his community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Honorable Robert Brooks Edwards for his dedication to Virginia's judicial system and his profession; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable Robert Brooks Edwards as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his outstanding and loyal service to the citizens of the Commonwealth as judge of the General District Court for the Fifth Judicial District.
