HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 415
Commending Joe Fleming.

WHEREAS, Joe Fleming, athletic director at Dominion High School of the Loudoun County Public Schools, was recognized in the Loudoun Connection’s January 4, 2008, issue for “Making a Difference” in his community; and

WHEREAS, in 1996 as athletic director of Broad Run High School, Joe Fleming created Athlete-to-Athlete, a program in which high school athletes teach the fundamentals of volleyball to athletes with special needs; and

WHEREAS, the Athlete-to-Athlete program helped Broad Run High School win the National Award for Community Relations in 1999; and

WHEREAS, eleven years after the program’s inception, Athlete-to-Athlete has been implemented and expanded throughout the Loudoun County Public Schools, and its hard-working students have taken over responsibility for the program; and

WHEREAS, through his guidance and visionary leadership, Joe Fleming plans to expand Athlete-to-Athlete to include every sport offered in the Loudoun County Public Schools, as well as implement the program in schools across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, as a passionate and innovative educator, Joe Fleming uses a hands-on approach to help Athlete-to-Athlete participants form meaningful relationships, providing students with extraordinary high school experiences that will help them succeed in life; and

WHEREAS, Joe Fleming epitomizes the vital role school faculty plays as mentors inside and outside the classroom through his Athlete-to-Athlete program, which teaches students to be responsible and active members of their school and their community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Joe Fleming for “Making a Difference” in the lives of Loudoun County students; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Joe Fleming as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his commitment to the youth of Loudoun County and the Commonwealth.
