WHEREAS, Leah Paige Truitt, a senior at Galax High School, is a member of the 2007-2008 National Executive Council for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Inc. and is serving as the organization’s national Vice-President of Community Service; and

WHEREAS, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Inc. (FCCLA) is an organization dedicated to promoting personal growth and leadership development among students through family and consumer sciences education; and

WHEREAS, Leah Truitt joined FCCLA in 10th grade and after attending her first National Cluster Meeting, she quickly began working with FCCLA programs and activities in her school and decided to run for a state office; in 2006-2007, she served as Vice-President of Parliamentary Law for the Virginia FCCLA; and

WHEREAS, through her involvement with FCCLA, Leah Truitt has had the opportunity to participate in many national conferences focused on youth services, and in her role as the FCCLA Vice-President for Community Service, she is the FCCLA national representative for the American Cancer Society and Feed the Children, and she has worked with Youth Service America and the National Organizations for Youth Safety; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her many commitments with FCCLA, Leah Truitt is ranked first in her class and is very active at her high school, where she is a member of the Career Club, Kidz-4-Kidz peer counseling club, and Students Against Drunk Driving and has served as secretary of the National Honor Society and the Student Council and president of the International Club; and

WHEREAS, Leah Truitt is also involved in her community, working as a lifeguard at her local pool and teaching swimming lessons throughout the year and serving as a youth facilitator for "Youth Creating Tomorrow's Opportunities Today," a forum where youth discuss issues related to economic development and leadership in Grayson and Carroll Counties and the City of Galax; and

WHEREAS, Leah Truitt is grateful for the many ways in which her participation in FCCLA has prepared her for success in her family, career, and community, and she is always eager to talk about the opportunities that FCCLA has to offer with students across the country; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Leah Paige Truitt for her dedicated participation in FCCLA; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Leah Paige Truitt as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her commitment to personal growth and leadership and her efforts to reach out to her fellow students.
