HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 39
Commending the Eastern Shore Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century on the occasion of its 40th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the Eastern Shore Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century is celebrating its 40th anniversary of preserving the rich and diverse history and culture of the Eastern Shore and the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the Eastern Shore Chapter of the Colonial Dames was established in October 1966 to promote the aims and projects of the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, preserving the story of the founding of America for future generations; and

WHEREAS, the Eastern Shore Chapter of the Colonial Dames aids in the preservation of historical records and sites, fosters interest in historical colonial research, provides education for Virginia's young people, commemorates the noble and heroic deeds of the founders of the nation and those that followed, and develops programs, activities, and libraries that celebrate the 17th century in America; and

WHEREAS, the Eastern Shore Chapter of the Colonial Dames strives to maintain the high principles of virtue, courage, and patriotism that led to the birth of the nation and maintains a library of heraldry and coats of arms to preserve the lineage of our ancestors that fought and persevered to make America strong and free; and

WHEREAS, the Eastern Shore Chapter of the Colonial Dames sponsors projects specifically aimed at preserving the history and diversity of the people of the Eastern Shore and their many contributions during the 17th century that led to American independence and the growth of the nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Eastern Shore Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the president of the Eastern Shore Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for its valuable work in the preservation of the history of Virginia for the enjoyment of its citizens.
