HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 394 Commending the Patrick County Music Association.

WHEREAS, the Patrick County Music Association, founded in 2003 by Denny Alley, plays a key role in promoting the Appalachian region’s unique musical and cultural heritage; and

WHEREAS, the Patrick County Music Association organizes music jamborees featuring a wide range of local and regional talent, and the performances are a real draw for residents and tourists, attracting 700 to 1,400 patrons per concert; and

WHEREAS, the Patrick County Music Association is an affiliate of the Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail, a driving route through the Appalachian Mountains that connects major heritage music venues in the Appalachian region; and

WHEREAS, the great success of the Patrick County Music Association can be attributed to the approximately 40 volunteers whose dedication and enthusiasm over the past five years have been key to the organization’s growth; and

WHEREAS, in addition to bringing wonderful music to the public, the Patrick County Music Association helps the community by inviting different nonprofit organizations to run the concession stands at performances; these nonprofits keep the concession revenues to support their own programs and activities; and

WHEREAS, the Patrick County Music Association is an integral part of the cultural life of Patrick County and the wider region and has played an important role in increasing tourism in Patrick County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Patrick County Music Association on its efforts to promote the music of the Appalachian region; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Denny Alley on behalf of the Patrick County Music Association as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the association’s dedication to the cultural heritage of the Commonwealth.
