Celebrating the life of Marvin Lee Nida.

WHEREAS, Marvin Lee Nida of Covington, a respected citizen and outstanding community supporter and volunteer, died on July 21, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Nida was born on January 27, 1934, in Alleghany County, the son of the late Henry L. Nida and Lillian Plymale Nida and served his country in the United States Air Force and the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, in 1997 Marvin Nida retired as a millwright from Westvaco Corporation in Covington after 29 years of faithful service; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Nida was a loyal member of the Westvaco Retirees Association and Local 8 - 675 of the United Steelworkers Union; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated and exemplary community service volunteer for many civic organizations, Marvin Nida gave his time and immense talents as a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Alleghany Regional Hospital, Meals on Wheels, Boiling Spring Fire Department, Brian Center Nursing Care in Low Moor, Boiling Spring First Aid Squad, several area youth league and Little League sports programs, and Christmas Mother, and he made appearances as Santa Claus throughout the Highlands; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Marvin Nida was a loyal and enthusiastic member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Senior Friends, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, and the Boiling Spring Ruritan Club, which honored him with the club’s first outstanding volunteer award; he also was active in the Mountaineer Athletic Club at Alleghany High School, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Nida will be fondly remembered for his love of family and for his kind and generous nature and will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 44 years, Alvina Taijeron Nida; his son and three daughters, Mark, Esther, Angel, and Mandy and their wonderful families, including six grandchildren; numerous other loved ones and friends; and the citizens of Covington; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine community benefactor and outstanding Virginian, Marvin Lee Nida; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Marvin Lee Nida as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
