WHEREAS, Virginia Law Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that was established to advance the science of jurisprudence and improve the administration of justice in the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, in support of its mission to promote, through philanthropy, the rule of law, access to justice, and law-related education, the Virginia Law Foundation recently made a $100,000 gift to the Virginia Holocaust Museum to assist in the completion of the museum’s permanent Nuremberg Trials Courtroom exhibit; and

WHEREAS, the trials of numerous Nazi military and political leaders in Nuremberg, Germany, after World War II were an extraordinary testament to the fundamental importance of the rule of law to world affairs; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Law Foundation has partnered with the Virginia Holocaust Museum to develop and oversee educational programming relating to the Nuremberg Trials Courtroom exhibit that will focus on the significant role of the rule of law in creating and maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, since the mid-1980s, the Virginia Law Foundation has awarded grants in excess of $22.5 million to support a wide variety of law-related projects throughout the Commonwealth—projects that have benefited tens of thousands of Virginians; and

WHEREAS, through its grants, the Virginia Law Foundation has supported programs that promote or provide legal services for the poor, improvements in the administration of justice, education of the public about the law and the legal profession, continuing legal education, and public service internships for Virginia law students; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Virginia Law Foundation for its generous support of the Nuremberg Trials Courtroom exhibit at the Virginia Holocaust Museum; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Virginia Law Foundation as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and appreciation for the Foundation's commitment to promoting legal education and access to justice throughout the Commonwealth.
