2008 SESSION
WHEREAS, Hunter Walker of Palmyra, age 9, a member of Cub Scout Pack 138 of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, is the recipient of the highest award given by the Boy Scouts of America, the Medal of Merit, for saving his sister’s life when he was only 7 years old; and
WHEREAS, playing with his two-year old baby sister Josie upstairs at the family’s Lake Monticello home, Hunter Walker discovered that she had swallowed something; and
WHEREAS, demonstrating maturity far beyond his years, Hunter Walker skillfully performed the Heimlich maneuver on Josie and quickly dislodged a marble from her airway that was preventing her from breathing; and
WHEREAS, graciously, Hunter Walker gave full credit to his grandmother Mimi for his knowledge of the procedure, because he remembered her using it on him once when he was choking on a grape; and
WHEREAS, Hunter Walker was thrilled to receive the medal and a framed certificate at the annual Boy Scouts of America’s recognition banquet held in Fishersville; and
WHEREAS, along with a group of Eagle Scouts at the recognition ceremony, Hunter Walker was the only Cub Scout to receive an award, and the only Scout honored with the Medal of Merit, a prestigious award that few Scouts receive; and
WHEREAS, Hunter Walker’s proud parents are Amy and Matt Walker and his equally proud Scout Leader is Dean Ostrowski; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Hunter Walker as the recipient of the Medal of Merit, the highest award given by the Boy Scouts of America; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Hunter Walker as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration of his quick thinking and great skill in rescuing his sister Josie from harm.
