HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 304
Commending the National Fruit Product Company, Inc.

WHEREAS, the National Fruit Product Company, Inc., will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2008; and

WHEREAS, in 1908 the National Fruit Product Company, Inc., was founded as Board, Armstrong and Company by Frank Armstrong, Sr., and B. Fleet Board to manufacture and distribute vinegar products made in Alexandria; and

WHEREAS, the company started a second vinegar plant, similar to the Alexandria facility, in Winchester in 1915 to take advantage of the bountiful apple orchards in the area; and

WHEREAS, the National Fruit Product Company, Inc., began processing other apple products in 1918, and apple sauce became a major product at the Winchester plant in 1930; and

WHEREAS, in 1938 the general office of the National Fruit Product Company, Inc., was moved from Washington, D.C., to Winchester; and

WHEREAS, the National Fruit Product Company, Inc., is a national leader in apple sauce manufacturing and is specifically credited in the industry with creating chunky apple sauce; and

WHEREAS, the National Fruit Product Company, Inc., is best known by parents and children for its many White House brands, including White House Apple Sauce, White House Premium Apple Juice, and White House Vinegar; and

WHEREAS, the National Fruit Product Company, Inc., supports over $18 million in annual payroll for its employees and spends nearly $25 million annually on apple and apple-related purchases; and

WHEREAS, the National Fruit Product Company, Inc., has been a valuable corporate leader in the Commonwealth’s manufacturing industry and an integral community partner and commercial leader in the Winchester area; and

WHEREAS, today the mission of the National Fruit Product Company, Inc., is to continue to cultivate and enhance its products, ensuring the success of the company and its vendors, growers, and customers; and

WHEREAS, for the last 100 years, the National Fruit Product Company, Inc., has been an exemplary leader in manufacturing innovation and in the production of world-class products in Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the National Fruit Product Company, Inc., on the occasion of its 100th anniversary in 2008 and commend the company and its excellent employees for their many contributions and their investment in the prosperity of the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the president of the National Fruit Product Company, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of the company’s many achievements and best wishes for continued success in the future.
