2008 SESSION
WHEREAS, Jane E. Ogletree, the respected longtime registrar of voters for the City of Colonial Heights, retired on August 31, 2007, after 43 years of outstanding service to her community and the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Jane Ogletree first began working for the registrar's office in 1964, when her father-in-law held the office, and she took over the post in 1973; and
WHEREAS, an experienced and conscientious administrator, Jane Ogletree has meticulously served the citizens of Colonial Heights with great patience and skill; and
WHEREAS, even though today's voters may register by mail or at the Division of Motor Vehicles, Jane Ogletree has always enjoyed meeting and interacting with new voters in person when they came to register to vote at her office at city hall in Colonial Heights; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated and enthusiastic public servant, Jane Ogletree has seen the recording of votes on election day evolve from paper ballots that volunteers counted and bundled with string to the new touchscreen voting machines that are tallied by a computer program; and
WHEREAS, receiving constant praise and accolades over the years from her fellow citizens, as well as her colleagues, Jane Ogletree has been instrumental in the superior and smooth operation of the registrar's office in Colonial Heights for many years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Jane E. Ogletree on her 43 years of effective leadership and outstanding service as longtime registrar of voters for the City of Colonial Heights; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jane E. Ogletree as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her many achievements and best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement.
