2008 SESSION
088416532WHEREAS, the Hanover High School softball team captured the Virginia High School League Group AAA Central Region championship in June 2007; and
WHEREAS, the talented Hanover High School Hawks were the Capital District regular season champions, the Capital District tournament champions, and claimed the No. 2 spot statewide, losing only to Kellam High School in a 1-0 final game in the state championship; and
WHEREAS, the Hanover High School softball team, the defending champion in the state finals game against the tough Kellam High School Knights, was trying to make it two state titles in a row, a very difficult feat; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Chris Pace was extremely proud of his Hawks, who have had a great run with the seniors graduating with a four-year record of 89 wins and 17 losses, last year’s state title, and this year’s state runner-up finish; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Hanover High School softball team are Jessie Atkinson, Mary Baker, Tiffany Browning, Lauren Brummel, Courtney Long, Erin McGhee, Amber Mull, Lisa Puryear, Christina Raikes, Julie Smith, Lindsay Smith, Jess Spiegler, Amanda Stevenson, Kelly Stajduhar, Brittany Sutherland, Amanda Woolard, and Allison Worley; and
WHEREAS, all of the Hanover High School Hawks players gave it their best in the regular and postseason, contributing to an outstanding championship record in 2006-2007; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the Hawks softball team is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Chris Pace and Assistant Coach Brian Letourneau; and the support of the parents, students, and faculty of Hanover High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Hawks softball team from Hanover High School as Capital District and Central Region champions; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Chris Pace as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the 2007 Hanover High School softball team.
