084409676WHEREAS, Robert H. Shackelford, Jr., of Newtown, a respected citizen, outdoorsman, and community leader, died on July 7, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Robert "Shack" Shackleford worked for many years for the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services as an assistant commissioner, and since retirement, enjoyed working part-time for the Virginia Department of Veterans Services and driving farm trucks for J. M. Fogg Farms; and
WHEREAS, an ardent outdoorsman, Robert Shackleford loved to hunt, fish, and enjoy the natural beauty of King and Queen County; and
WHEREAS, Robert Shackleford was a member of and served in leadership positions for many community organizations, including the Arlington Masonic Lodge No. 102, the Upper King and Queen Ruritan, the National Sportsman Association Hunt Club, the Upper King and Queen Fire Department, the Middle Peninsula Northern Neck Community Services Board, and the local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation; and
WHEREAS, always ready to lend a helping hand to his neighbors, Robert Shackleford was well-known for his strong commitment to his community and for his kind and generous nature; and
WHEREAS, Robert Shackleford was a faithful member of the Upper King and Queen Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a member of the board of trustees and was instrumental in the building of a new church addition; and
WHEREAS, Robert Shackleford will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, father, and friend and will be greatly missed by Linda, his loving wife of 38 years; his son Robert and his wife Cherrie; his daughter Christie Davis and her husband Wyn; three grandchildren, Matthew, Emme, and Tripp; and his many other relatives and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the tragic passing of an outstanding Virginian, Robert H. Shackelford, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert H. Shackelford, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
