087942404Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 59.1-512 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 59.1-512. Identification of telephone solicitor or certain charitable organization required.
A. A telephone solicitor who makes a telephone solicitation call shall identify himself by his first and last names and the name of the person on whose behalf the telephone solicitation call is being made promptly upon making contact with the called person.
B. A person who makes a telephone call to any natural person's residence in the Commonwealth, or to any wireless telephone with a Virginia area code, for the purpose of soliciting contributions for a charitable organization comprised of members who are current or retired law-enforcement officers as defined in § 9.1-101, shall:
1. Identify himself by his first and last names and the name of the charitable organization on whose behalf the telephone call is being made promptly upon making contact with the called person; and
2. If the person making the call is associated with a criminal justice agency as defined in § 9.1-101, either as a volunteer or for remuneration, state that he is not calling on behalf of the criminal justice agency or in the course of the criminal justice agency's official duties, and that the charitable organization on whose behalf the telephone call is being made is comprised of members who are current or retired law-enforcement officers.
