An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Article 14 of Chapter 8 of Title 46.2 a section numbered 46.2-919.1, relating to use of wireless telecommunications devices by school bus drivers.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 14 of Chapter 8 of Title 46.2 a section numbered 46.2-919.1 as follows:

§ 46.2-919.1. Use of wireless telecommunications devices by persons driving school buses.

No person shall use any wireless telecommunications device, whether handheld or otherwise, while driving a school bus, except in case of an emergency, or when the vehicle is lawfully parked and for the purposes of dispatching. Nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit the use of two-way radio devices authorized by the owner of the school bus.
