HB 3168 Voter registration; if not shown on pollbooks proof of registration at DMV, etc., required to vote.

Introduced by: Rosalyn R. Dance | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles | history

SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:

Elections; persons not listed in pollbook; application for registration and provisional ballot.  Requires officers of election to provide persons offering to vote not listed in pollbook an application for registration along with a provisional ballot.  Allows counting the provisional ballot if the voter or State Board of Elections proves that a timely registration application was submitted to another state-designated registration agency and the registrar determines the voter is qualified based on the application provided when he offered to vote.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

Elections; voter registration at offices of Department of Motor Vehicles; evidence of registration.  Requires DMV office to forward completed voter registration applications to elections officials within three, rather than five, business days. Permits forwarding of applications by facsimile or electronic means. Allows voter whose name is not on the pollbook to cast his ballot at the polling place, rather than by a provisional ballot, if he presents proof of timely registration at a DMV office and completes a registration application at the polling place.
