2007 SESSION
WHEREAS, Frank B. Nelms, Sr., a respected citizen of the City of Suffolk, died on January 9, 2007; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Suffolk, Frank Nelms was born on July 17, 1930, the son of Johnnie Wood and Lois Brinkley Nelms and stepson of Selma Sawyer Nelms; and
WHEREAS, Frank Nelms was the founder and chairman of the board of Driver Contractors, Inc., founder and president of Teach's Lair Marina, Inc., and founder and vice president of Joan Corporation; and
WHEREAS, always deeply engaged in community service in Suffolk, Frank Nelms was a charter member of Suffolk Forward, assistant chief of the Driver Volunteer Fire Department, founding patron of Nansemond Suffolk Academy, past president of the Driver DeJarnett Parent Teacher Association, troop leader of Boy Scout Troup No. 16, and a member of the Suffolk Elks Lodge No. 685, Suffolk Moose Lodge No. 141, American Legion Post No. 0141, the Jolly Boys, and the Progressive Club; and
WHEREAS, a disabled Navy Air Corps veteran of the Korean War, Frank Nelms was a lifelong member of his beloved Berea Christian Church, where he served on the property committee, was instrumental in the installation of a new speaker system for the church, and participated in many other projects; and
WHEREAS, Frank Nelms will be fondly remembered and keenly missed by his wife, Joan; their four children and their grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Frank B. Nelms, Sr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Frank B. Nelms, Sr., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect for his memory.
