WHEREAS, Clarke County High School won the 2006 Wachovia Cup for having the best overall record in Virginia High School League Group A state-level competition; and

WHEREAS, the Wachovia Cup, sponsored by the Virginia High School League and Wachovia Bank, honors individual high schools in Virginia for athletic achievements; and

WHEREAS, in the athletic competition for the Wachovia Cup, points are awarded to schools based on performance over the course of the school year in state championship events in 27 sports as well as earning the league's Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity award; and

WHEREAS, Clarke County High School won its second consecutive Wachovia Cup with a decisive 390 points, topping second-place Radford by 120 points; and

WHEREAS, the Clarke County Eagles won six state championships in 2005–2006, in boys’ outdoor track, boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, boys’ cross country, girls’ cross country, and boys’ basketball, and they placed second in girls’ outdoor track and girls’ basketball; and

WHEREAS, the outstanding performance of Clarke County High School’s athletic teams in 2005–2006 is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of team members; the leadership of the coaching staffs; and the support of the administration, faculty, students, and parents of Clarke County High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Clarke County High School on winning the coveted 2006 Wachovia Cup; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Principal Francie Ball as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the sustained athletic excellence of the Clarke County Eagles.
