SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 521
Commending the Clarke County High School girls’ soccer team.

WHEREAS, the Clarke County High School girls’ soccer team won the 2006 Virginia High School League Group A state championship by defeating Radford High School, 1–0; and

WHEREAS, this was the Clarke County Eagles’ third straight appearance in the state finals and their second straight championship win; and

WHEREAS, in an astonishing show of dominance, the Eagles have lost only one out of 43 games during the past two championship seasons, winning the Region B tournament championship both years en route to the state finals; and

WHEREAS, despite the loss of two key players to injuries, junior midfielder Leslie Hardesty and junior forward Keely McCall, the Eagles triumphed in the title game behind the steady play and firm onfield leadership of sophomore forward Danielle Moyer; and

WHEREAS, the spectacular performance of the 2006 Clarke County Eagles is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Coach Laurie Harrell and her staff; and the support of the students, faculty, and parents of Clarke County High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Clarke County High School girls’ soccer team on its Virginia High School League Group A state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Laurie Harrell on behalf of the Clarke County High School girls’ soccer team as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s outstanding 2006 season.
