Commending Iliana Sanchez.

WHEREAS, Iliana Sanchez, aged 17, of the community of Spencer, is recognized as a distinguished finalist in the 2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Award program for her exemplary volunteer activities; and

WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across the nation who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

WHEREAS, a senior at Bassett High School in Henry County, Iliana Sanchez created Minds of the Arts, an arts organization run by teens for teens, to encourage young adults to get involved in the arts; and

WHEREAS, Iliana Sanchez hosts monthly “café meetings” where young people gather to share their talents in acting, singing, writing, and painting and offer one another support and feedback; and

WHEREAS, the spirit of volunteerism, the strength of the Commonwealth’s communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Iliana Sanchez who use their considerable talents and resources to positively affect the lives of others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Iliana Sanchez as a distinguished finalist in the 2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Award program; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Iliana Sanchez as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her exemplary commitment to serving others.
