2007 SESSION
WHEREAS, Fran and John Lovaas were honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a 2007 Best of Reston award; and
WHEREAS, the Best of Reston awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the Reston community and improving the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, Fran and John Lovaas are the embodiment of community spirit and service, working enthusiastically, together and separately, to support a wide range of organizations in the Reston area; and
WHEREAS, Fran and John Lovaas have spent many hours volunteering together at the Embry Rucker Community Shelter, Herndon Official Workers Center, Bargain Loft, and the American Red Cross; and
WHEREAS, strongly committed to education and equity for young women, Fran Lovaas is a long-standing member and former co-president of the Reston-Herndon branch of the American Association of University Women, and through this organization she has served as a mentor to at-risk girls at Forest Edge Elementary School and helped coordinate the Girls Excelling in Math and Science program at Dogwood Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, through his service and leadership roles with the Reston Association, Reston Citizens Association, and Alliance for a Better Community and as a producer and host of a weekly program on local channel 28, John Lovaas has led and contributed to important discussions about Reston’s growth and continued vitality; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Fran and John Lovaas for their outstanding service to the citizens of Northern Virginia and congratulate them on their 2007 Best of Reston award; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Fran and John Lovaas as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for their efforts on behalf of the community of Reston.
