SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 449 Offered January 22, 2007 Commending Daisy Portuondo. ---------- Patron-- Wampler ----------

WHEREAS, Daisy Portuondo has served faithfully for more than three decades as the founding director of Pro-Art; and

WHEREAS, Daisy Portuondo’s leadership of Pro-Art has exposed thousands of adults and school children to the performing arts throughout Wise County, the City of Norton, and neighboring counties; and

WHEREAS, Daisy Portuondo was founder of the Creative Arts Summer Camp, which has provided enrichment experiences for hundreds of Wise County children each summer for decades; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Daisy Portuondo has generously given her time and immense talents as a member of several boards of cultural organizations, including the Barter Theatre, the Virginia Art Presenters, and Virginians for the Arts; and

WHEREAS, Daisy Portuondo was honored with the annual Citizen of the Year Award by the Wise County Chamber of Commerce for her outstanding contributions to the enhancement of the cultural life of the region; and she was also a recipient of the prestigious Governor’s Award for the Arts; and

WHEREAS, always willing to share her great knowledge and expertise, especially with young people, Daisy Portuondo’s dedication has instilled a love of the arts in many of her fellow citizens that will last throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Daisy Portuondo for her more than three decades of service as the founding director of Pro-Art; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Daisy Portuondo as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her commitment to the arts and the citizens of Wise County and the Commonwealth.
