079135766WHEREAS, Lewis Latane Trice of Walkerton, a respected citizen and farmer and a dedicated community supporter, died on December 29, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Latane Trice was born at Bewdley Farm on the Mattaponi River and grew up on a farm near Walkerton, sometimes riding a horse to school; and
WHEREAS, Latane Trice worked for 36 years as a salesman for Kingan and Co. Meat Packers, covering the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula and making many friends throughout the region; and
WHEREAS, around 1976, Latane Trice turned to farming and auctioneering full time and was highly knowledgeable about country livestock, seed varieties, and farm technology, and he served one term as First District representative to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries; and
WHEREAS, a longtime member of the King and Queen Historical Society, Latane Trice was well versed in area history and wrote about steamboats and barges plying the Mattaponi River and horse races on the bygone regional harness circuit; and
WHEREAS, Latane Trice was a loyal supporter of Aylett Country Day School, organizing jousting tournaments for the annual school fair; and
WHEREAS, Latane Trice was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at Miller's Tavern, where he served as a trustee and vestryman, and was senior steward of Arlington Lodge No. 102, where he was a member for 50 years; and
WHEREAS, Latane Trice will be fondly remembered by his family, his many friends, and the citizens of King and Queen County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the passing of a fine Virginian, Lewis Latane Trice; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lewis Latane Trice as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
