2007 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Chancellor High School field hockey team won the Virginia High School League Group AA state championship on November 11, 2006, by defeating James Monroe High School by a score of 2–0; and
WHEREAS, after being runners-up in the state finals for the past four years, the Chancellor Chargers finally came away with the top prize; and
WHEREAS, in the hotly contested first half, the Chargers’ powerful offense produced 11 penalty corners, six of which came during a five-minute span, yet the first 30 minutes of the game ended with no score; and
WHEREAS, the Chargers finally broke through halfway in the second period when senior Jenna Cinalli dribbled past three defenders and passed to sophomore Erika Wishard, who was able to push the ball past a charging James Monroe goalie and knock it in for the score; and
WHEREAS, Erika Wishard also scored the team’s second goal to clinch the victory and put the state championship trophy in the Chargers’ hands; and
WHEREAS, led by seniors Brigit Bergen, Lara Cariker, Jenna Cinalli, Sarah Webb, and Missy Woodie and outstanding coach Jim Larkin, the Chancellor Chargers finished the season with a record of 22–1; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2006 Chargers is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players, the leadership of the coaching staff, and the support of the students, parents, and faculty of Chancellor High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Chancellor High School field hockey team on its 2006 state field hockey championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Jim Larkin as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the 2006 Chancellor High School field hockey team.
