Commending Karl Stoltzfus.

WHEREAS, Karl Stoltzfus of Bridgewater was inducted into the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame on November 4, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Karl Stoltzfus, who has been flying for more than 50 years, was one of four Virginians honored by the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame at its annual banquet held in Richmond; and

WHEREAS, Karl Stoltzfus is the founder and chairman of Dynamic Aviation, which provides data collection, surveillance, and reconnaissance services, fire-suppression operations, and insect and disease control for government agencies, research institutions, and businesses; and

WHEREAS, Dynamic Aviation has 250 dedicated employees, maintains a fleet of 60 aircraft at nine bases, provides services in more than a dozen countries, and will soon undertake a $4.1 million expansion project, creating 150 new jobs within four years; and

WHEREAS, in 1967, Karl Stoltzfus and his twin brother, Ken, started out by establishing a small family business called K&K Aircraft, providing technical schools with flight training aids; and

WHEREAS, in 1974, Karl Stoltzfus decided to buy Bridgewater Airport and expand the business to handle contracts to spray for the gypsy moth and later the Mediterranean fruit fly, and over the next 20 years, K&K Aircraft added air charter services, hangars, state of the art equipment, and a manufacturing division; and

WHEREAS, in the late 1990s, K&K Aircraft purchased 124 King Air 90s from the United States Army, concentrated on meeting the needs of government contracts, and became Dynamic Aviation, one of the world’s largest private flight services organizations; and

WHEREAS, the United States Department of Agriculture named Dynamic Aviation as its Small Business Contractor of the Year in 1999, and the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce named Karl Stoltzfus 2006 Businessman of the Year; and

WHEREAS, an aviation industry leader, Karl Stoltzfus has been successful due to his strong commitment to “do the job well,” and also because of the support of his talented wife Barbara and his son Michael, who is the current president and chief executive officer of Dynamic Aviation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Karl Stoltzfus on his induction into the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Karl Stoltzfus as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his extraordinary accomplishments and his service to the citizens of the Commonwealth.
