Commending Thomas R. Waddy, Sr.

WHEREAS, Thomas R. Waddy, Sr., an outstanding member of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office for 32 years, retired on December 31, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Waddy was born on July 23, 1940, to Ruth Holmes and Fred C. Waddy; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Waddy graduated from John M. Gandy High School, married his devoted wife Mary Randolph Waddy, now a retired Hanover School teacher, and the couple have been married for 47 years and have a fine son, Thomas R. Waddy, Jr., who is a sergeant at the Pamunkey Regional Jail; and

WHEREAS, in 1975, Thomas Waddy began his career with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office as one of its two police officers and 17 deputies, who made up the entire professional law-enforcement staff for the county at the time; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Waddy was promoted through the ranks from corporal in 1978 to lieutenant in 2000, serving in that position with great distinction until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, committed to protecting and serving Virginia’s citizens and enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth, Lieutenant Waddy, became a professional and vastly experienced member of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, who is highly respected by his fellow law-enforcement officers; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to giving back to his community, Lieutenant Waddy has been an active member of numerous civic organizations including the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9808, the Eastern Hanover Rescue Squad, the Hanover Learning Center, the Carey Wheaton Lodge #307, the Mocha Temple #7, and a member and treasurer of the Fraternal Order of Police; and

WHEREAS, a lifelong learner, Lieutenant Waddy has continued his education through the completion of numerous specialized law-enforcement courses and seminars; and

WHEREAS, an exceptional mentor and role model in the community, Lieutenant Waddy has received civic awards and numerous accolades for his exemplary public service; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Thomas R. Waddy, Sr., for his outstanding and longtime service to the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of the Hanover County community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Thomas R. Waddy, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his many contributions and best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement.
