WHEREAS, Dotty Eng of Alexandria was honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award by President George W. Bush on May 12, 2006; and

WHEREAS, the prestigious award was presented to Dotty Eng in a White House ceremony marking Asian Pacific American Heritage Month; and

WHEREAS, Dotty Eng raised her three children on her own after the loss of her beloved husband and has led a productive life, selflessly giving her time and many talents in service to people in need; and

WHEREAS, Dotty Eng is a dedicated member and volunteer of the Gold Star Wives of America, Inc., an organization of women whose spouses died while serving their country in the United States armed forces or as a result of a service-related disability; and

WHEREAS, a member of the Potomac chapter, Dotty Eng serves on the national board of the Gold Star Wives of America, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Dotty Eng volunteers at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C., which provides outreach and much needed care to residents, who include many Gulf War veterans relocated to the facility following Hurricane Katrina; and

WHEREAS, for the past two years, Dotty Eng has assembled countless packages to be sent to soldiers serving overseas; and

WHEREAS, an enthusiastic community supporter, Dotty Eng is a shining example of the invaluable services provided by local volunteers throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Dotty Eng as a recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dotty Eng as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her commitment to her fellow citizens.
