A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 18.2-97.1, relating to malicious removal of a dog collar; penalty.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 18.2-97.1 as follows:

§ 18.2-97.1. Malicious removal of a dog collar; penalty.

Any person who, with malicious intent, removes an electronic radio transmitting collar from a dog is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor; however, if the animal wearing the collar is lost or killed as a result of the collar removal, the person is guilty of a Class 6 felony.
