2007 SESSION
WHEREAS, Poroporone Baptist Church was organized on August 29, 1807, in the Buena Vista district of King and Queen County; and
WHEREAS, in 1879 the growing church moved to its present location in the community of Shacklefords, and since that time, Poroporone Baptist Church has added new facilities to accommodate further growth and provide more space for the many services it offers to the residents of the surrounding area; and
WHEREAS, members of Poroporone Baptist Church, led by their pastor Donald J. Campbell, are deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of others, and the church is actively engaged in ministries in Shacklefords and throughout Virginia and supports missionary activities around the world; and
WHEREAS, Poroporone Baptist Church serves its members and the community at large by supporting Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs as well as other activities for youth and working with local social services agencies and diversion center programs; and
WHEREAS, fostering a strong relationship with other local churches, Poroporone Baptist Church maintains a food pantry for people in need with the aid of other congregations and regularly seeks out opportunities to minister with neighboring churches; and
WHEREAS, the members of Poroporone Baptist Church are "salt of the earth" citizens who have served their country and community with great dedication and a strong sense of purpose; and
WHEREAS, for 200 years, Poroporone Baptist Church has provided its devoted congregation, its neighbors, and the community a place to worship, to help others, and to grow in faith and service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Poroporone Baptist Church hereby be commended and congratulated on the occasion of its 200th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Donald J. Campbell on behalf of Poroporone Baptist Church as an expression of the House of Delegates' best wishes for a joyful celebration and future success in the church's ministry.
