073891300WHEREAS, Columbia Pike, also known as State Route 244, is an historic corridor in Arlington County; and
WHEREAS, the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization (CPRO) is a public/private partnership that has worked for the past 20 years to promote community and economic development that benefits local residents, business owners, and the County as a whole; and
WHEREAS, CPRO is a coalition of businesses, civic associations, property owners, and individuals working with the Arlington County government to reinvigorate this important Arlington corridor; and
WHEREAS, CPRO has been instrumental in obtaining the approval of the Arlington County Board of Supervisors for mixed-use development at Penrose Square and a former Safeway site that will bring a full-service grocery store, nearly 500 rental apartments, new retail shopping, and a public square to the heart of Columbia Pike; and
WHEREAS, CPRO has supported form-based code redevelopment that has resulted in the completion of the Alcova Row Townhouses and groundbreaking for the Halstead at Arlington, a condominium development; and
WHEREAS, CPRO was also a key advocate for a five-mile streetcar line to run along Columbia Pike between Skyline in Fairfax County and Arlington's Pentagon City, the plan for which has been endorsed by the Arlington County Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, CPRO plays a big role in producing the annual Arlington Blues Festival and makes possible the Columbia Pike Farmer's Market; and
WHEREAS, CPRO has helped make the Columbia Pike community a welcoming place for people who come to live there from around the world; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization hereby be commended and congratulated on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization as an expression of the House of Delegates' appreciation of its fine work on behalf of so many of the residents and businesses in Arlington County.
