HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 74
Celebrating the life of F. Rodney Fitzpatrick.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 24, 2007

 

WHEREAS, F. Rodney Fitzpatrick, a respected attorney from Roanoke, died on February 13, 2007; and

WHEREAS, a native of Roanoke, Rodney Fitzpatrick attended Jefferson High School, now the Jefferson Center, and served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II; and

WHEREAS, after obtaining a law degree from Washington and Lee University in 1949, Rodney Fitzpatrick established a law office in Roanoke and worked as a solo practitioner until his retirement in 2004; and

WHEREAS, well-liked and highly respected in legal circles, Rodney Fitzpatrick was considered a tough opponent in the courtroom, but always a gentleman; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Rodney Fitzpatrick was active in a number of professional organizations including the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, which he served as president in 1974–1975; the Roanoke Bar Association, which he served as president in 1975–1976; the Virginia State Bar; and the Virginia Bar Association; and he became a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation in 1999; and

WHEREAS, Rodney Fitzpatrick was a man of great integrity who loved his law practice, vacations at the beach, seafood, a good joke, and, above all, his family; and

WHEREAS, Rodney Fitzpatrick will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 59 years, Alice, their children and grandchildren, and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of F. Rodney Fitzpatrick; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of F. Rodney Fitzpatrick as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
