Commending the Danville Braves.

WHEREAS, the Danville Braves, a minor league baseball team affiliated with the Atlanta Braves, won their first ever Appalachian League championship on September 3, 2006; and

WHEREAS, the Danville Braves defeated the Elizabethton Twins two games to one in the best of three series; and

WHEREAS, the Danville Braves won their third straight Eastern Division title to make it to the championship series, and after disappointing losses the previous two years, in 2006 the Braves were able to bring home the big prize; and

WHEREAS, the Danville Braves won the first game in the series 1–0, and after going up 4–0 in game two, they watched the Elizabethton Twins fight back for a 5–4 victory; and

WHEREAS, down 2–0 in the fifth inning of the final game, the Braves needed a big play and they got it from first baseman Ernesto Mejia, who tied the game with a two-run home run; and

WHEREAS, with the game tied again at 3–3 in the top of the seventh and final inning, the Braves' Danny Brezeale stepped to the plate; launching a curveball over the fence, he gave the Braves a 4–3 lead, which they held on to through the bottom of the seventh to win the game and the championship; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2006 Danville Braves is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of General Manager David Cross and his staff; and the support of the entire Danville community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Danville Braves on winning their first ever Appalachian League championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to General Manager David Cross on behalf of the Danville Braves as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for their achievement and best wishes for future success.
