076743402WHEREAS, the Richmond Triangle Players, a community theater that presents quality performances of alternative, original, and seldom-seen dramatic works, celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2007; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1992 by three friends who were seeking a way to raise money for AIDS research, Richmond Triangle Players has grown into a top-quality theater whose mission is to entertain, enlighten, and educate people while performing theatrical works that explore contemporary lifestyles, equality, gender roles, and cultural acceptance; and
WHEREAS, while Richmond Triangle Players regularly presents works by and for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, its audience members come from a wide range of backgrounds and enjoy the emphasis on diversity and tolerance in the company's productions; and
WHEREAS, an important part of the cultural fabric of its home city, Richmond Triangle Players is a significant community partner, hiring local actors and supporting local businesses in mounting its productions; and
WHEREAS, Richmond Triangle Players has twice represented the City of Richmond in the biennial Columbus National Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival and won multiple awards for its productions; and
WHEREAS, with a solid national reputation for excellence and high-quality work, Richmond Triangle Players attracts submissions from playwrights across the country; and
WHEREAS, through its efforts over the years to provide an open, welcome, and cooperative atmosphere to the entertainment community and the community at large, Richmond Triangle Players has gained the respect and admiration of its peers in the theatrical community and the expanding support of the Richmond community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Richmond Triangle Players on the occasion of its 15th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Richmond Triangle Players as an expression of the General Assembly's best wishes for future success.
