2007 SESSION
076756272WHEREAS, the North Stafford High School step team triumphed in January 2007 in a national competition sponsored by Sony Pictures; and
WHEREAS, the contest, entered by 38 teams across the country, was a promotional event linked to the release of Stomp the Yard, a film about collegiate stepping; and
WHEREAS, participating teams submitted videos of their performances that were posted on the film's website and then voted on by viewers; and
WHEREAS, after surviving a first round of competition to be named one of four finalists, the North Stafford step team then went on to win 50% of the vote, earning 14,000 votes overall, in the final balloting to claim the top prize; and
WHEREAS, North Stafford has had a step team for seven years, and team members practice eight to 10 hours a week to polish their demanding, high-energy performances; and
WHEREAS, the success of the North Stafford High School step team is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the team members; the leadership of volunteer Coach Mary Jones; and the support of the school and the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the North Stafford High School step team on its prize winning performance; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Mary Jones as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations for the North Stafford step team's achievement.
