Commending Sabrina Black.

WHEREAS, Sabrina Black of Alexandria was presented the first ever Cleary Award on November 13, 2006, by the nonprofit Stop Child Abuse Now, for her volunteer work on behalf of abused and neglected children; and

WHEREAS, the Cleary Award, named for David Cleary, the founder of Stop Child Abuse Now, recognizes individuals and organizations whose work with children and families significantly impacts the lives of children and helps bring about positive change; and

WHEREAS, Sabrina Black is a court appointed special advocate (CASA) and is part of the national CASA program, whose mission is to support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children so that they can thrive in safe, permanent homes; and

WHEREAS, over the past 10 years, Sabrina Black has devoted more than 1,000 hours as a CASA volunteer, speaking up for abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system in Northern Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Sabrina Black has worked with families struggling with domestic violence, substance abuse, mental illness, developmental delays, and incarcerated parents, and her passion and dedication to making a positive difference has greatly impacted children's lives; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Sabrina Black for her unwavering commitment to helping the most vulnerable members of society; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sabrina Black as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for her advocacy efforts on behalf of neglected and abused children.
