HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 916
Commending Peggy R. Robertson.

WHEREAS, Peggy R. Robertson, who has served the Commonwealth with distinction for over 40 years and under 10 governors, will retire on February 28, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Robertson began her career in public service on September 16, 1966, with the Division of Engineering and Buildings; and

WHEREAS, experienced in all aspects of state government, Peggy Robertson has served in numerous positions for the Commonwealth, most recently as the executive director of the Commonwealth Competition Council and as an employee of the Department of Planning and Budget; and

WHEREAS, as assistant director for administration of the Division of Engineering and Buildings, the largest division of the Department of General Services (DGS), Peggy Robertson served as executive assistant to Governor George Allen’s chief of staff and was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Governor’s Office, as well as providing special assistance to the Executive Mansion and Constituent Services; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Robertson coordinated gubernatorial inauguration events and transitions between administrations for many years, leading multiagency representatives through a smooth transition of government; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Robertson also attended the Commonwealth Management Institute while assistant director for administration of the Division of Engineering and Buildings; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Robertson has represented state agencies on a variety of committees at both the state and federal level, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Advisory Committee and Virginia Public Service Week Committee, and as a member of task forces and work groups on issues such as innovations in government, employee recognition, and statewide health benefits; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Robertson coordinated an award-winning state fair exhibit for DGS and was recognized as a member of its Team of the Year award; she also implemented the Commonwealth Competition Council’s award-winning website, which garnered international accolades; and

WHEREAS, as a member of the Competition Council staff, Peggy Robertson received a $3,000 cash award as the winner of the 2003 Better Government Competition in the Effective Public Management category; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Peggy R. Robertson on her many outstanding achievements and on the completion of an exceptional 40-year public service career; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Peggy R. Robertson as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her dedication to the citizens of the Commonwealth and best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement.
