076779554WHEREAS, Linwood Wadsworth has dedicated himself to local radio broadcasting in eastern Virginia for 35 years; and
WHEREAS, Linwood Wadsworth worked part-time at several radio stations in the 1960s before serving in Vietnam with the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, in 1971 Linwood Wadsworth resumed his broadcasting career when he joined his brother Danny at WRAR-AM in Tappahannock; and
WHEREAS, Linwood Wadsworth's primary duties at WRAR were as an announcer and advertising salesman, and in 1985 he became part owner of the station; and
WHEREAS, fulfilling a lifelong dream to be his own boss and acquire his own station, in 1993, Linwood Wadsworth purchased WNNT AM-FM in Warsaw, Virginia, a station that first went on the air in 1949 and is the oldest radio station to serve the Northern Neck; and
WHEREAS, Linwood Wadsworth's most important accomplishment in broadcasting was guiding WNNT from being a station that struggled to survive to the thriving, successful station it is today; and
WHEREAS, after being a fixture on the radio waves in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula for 35 years, Linwood Wadsworth sold WNNT in 2006 to Real Media, Inc.; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Linwood Wadsworth for his many years of outstanding service as a radio broadcaster and station owner; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Linwood Wadsworth as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his dedication to the citizens of Warsaw and the surrounding area.
