Celebrating the life of Augustus Courtland Spotts III.

WHEREAS, Augustus Courtland Spotts III of Dublin, Virginia, a respected citizen and generous community benefactor, died on February 5, 2007; and

WHEREAS, a native of Dublin, Augustus "A.C." Spotts was born on September 1, 1927, to the late Mary Christine Tyree and Augustus Courtland Spotts, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, A.C. Spotts graduated from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and bravely served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and in Korea as a first lieutenant in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, A.C. Spotts was married to the late Margaret Ann Carneal Spotts, and the couple had two devoted sons, Courtland and Meade; and

WHEREAS, A.C. Spotts was a successful real estate developer in the Richmond area; however, he loved to work on his property in Dublin, Springfield Farms, where he raised sheep and cattle and enjoyed the countryside; and

WHEREAS, A.C. Spotts was active in his community, participated in many civic organizations and activities, and was a generous supporter of his alma mater, VMI, serving as a member of the university's board of visitors for many years; and

WHEREAS, always concerned with the welfare of his neighbors, A.C. Spotts was a faithful member of New Dublin Presbyterian Church and a leader in the church's many missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, A.C. Spotts will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, JoAnn Kinzer Spotts, his two sons and their wives, his seven wonderful grandchildren, and a host of other loving family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Augustus Courtland Spotts III; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Augustus Courtland Spotts III as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
