HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 869
Commending Melissa Nehrbass.

WHEREAS, Melissa Nehrbass has been a member of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) in Newport News for 17 years, working tirelessly on the council, district, and state levels to support the mission of the PTA to advocate for children and encourage parental and community involvement in the public schools; and

WHEREAS, the mother of three children, Melissa Nehrbass became involved in the PTA when her oldest daughter was in elementary school, wanting to support her local schools and help forge links between the schools and the community; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Melissa Nehrbass has worked with the PTA at Saunders Elementary School, the former Watkins Elementary School, Crittenden Middle School, the former Newsome Park Middle School, and the former Ferguson High School, serving on membership committees and as volunteer coordinator, secretary, treasurer, first vice president and president; and

WHEREAS, on the state level, Melissa Nehrbass has served on the PTA bylaws, membership, and convention committees, and has attended the state convention for the past 10 years and the national convention for the past five years; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her tremendous commitment to the PTA, Melissa Nehrbass makes time for other community involvement—she has been a Girl Scout troop leader and master trainer and at her church she sings in the choir, is a Bible school coordinator, and has served on a number of committees; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Melissa Nehrbass for her dedication to the Parent Teacher Association; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Melissa Nehrbass as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her advocacy efforts on behalf of the children of Newport News and the Commonwealth.
