HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 866
Commending the Reston Children's Center on the occasion of its 40th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the Reston Children's Center, founded in 1967, is a nonprofit, parent-owned cooperative dedicated to the developmental and educational needs of children and to providing a quality support system for families; and

WHEREAS, the Reston Children's Center (RCC) strives to be the children's home away from home, and its programs include infant care, preschool education, before- and after-school enrichment for children in kindergarten through grade six, and summer camp; and

WHEREAS, combining professional and family-centered care, the Reston Children's Center's daily activities help children develop independence, a sense of self-worth, and self-control with regard to how their actions affect others; and

WHEREAS, the Reston Children's Center has a diverse, well-trained, and experienced staff, many of whom have advanced degrees in early childhood education, elementary education, children's literature, and related fields, and all staff are encouraged to pursue continuing education through seminars, workshops, and courses; and

WHEREAS, in 1992 the Reston Children's Center was recognized by the Virginia Council on Child Day Care and Early Childhood Programs as one of five model programs in the state and began providing technical assistance and mentoring to child care professionals from other organizations; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Reston Children's Center on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reston Children's Center as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for its years of service to the citizens of Reston and the Commonwealth and best wishes for a bright future.
